Police Learn More About Moments Before Shooting

Brazill Claims Gun Accdientaly Went Off

Nicolle Gomez, Staff Writer

LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Police and investigators are learning more about the moments before Lake Worth Middle School teacher Barry Grunow was shot on May 26.

Earlier in the week, a teen witness told police that Brazill threatened to shoot a teacher. Another witness said Brazill asked him for a gun.

Nathaniel Brazill

According to the witness, Brazill was then picked up by a driver in a white car at 10th Street and Barnett Drive.

Investigators found out that the driver of the white car was a Lake Worth Pizza delivery man.

The driver told police that Brazill did not seem upset or angry at the time.

Brazill went to the pizza parlor and then walked to his grandmother's home.

Police said that Brazill allegedly took the gun from the Boynton Beach home of Elmore McCray, his surrogate grandfather.

Boynton Beach Police tell Eyewitness News 25 that they have decided not to file criminal charges against McCray. But sources said that the state attorney's office is still considering this an open case.

Last week, Brazill waived his arraignment and his attorney entered an innocent plea for him. Brazill claims that the gun accidentally went off and shot Grunow in the face.
